3 Things to Check This Month to Protect Your Foundation

  • Household Tips
Your home's foundation is one of its most important structural components. A quick monthly inspection can help prevent costly repairs down the road.

1. Check Your Downspouts

Make sure downspouts direct water at least 6 feet away from your home. Water pooling near the foundation can lead to cracks, shifting, and basement moisture issues.

2. Inspect for Cracks

Walk around your home and look for new cracks in foundation walls, exterior brickwork, or interior drywall. Small issues caught early are often much easier and less expensive to address.

3. Watch for Poor Drainage

After a rainfall, check for standing water around your property. The ground should slope away from your home so water drains properly and doesn't collect near the foundation.
